My 2nd rifle has been a Ruger Precision for a few years. It’s great gear and I loved it, but it gets a bit heavy when you cart it around hunting trips by backpack. So I decided it had to go.
It was replaced by a 2nd hand Remington 700 Stainless. The stainless has vast advantages in NZ bush and water everywhere ;-). It also has significantly less weight. But the plastic stock that came with it is terrible. Just terrible. Good action, but terrible stock. Guess they have to save somewhere.
There are a number of fantastic lightweight chassis out there and I decided it would either be an XLR Element 4.0 or the MDT HNT26. I read quite a few reviews and comparisons and there was no real winner.
The market decided as the MDT was not in stock but the XLR was. There you go, destiny made the decision.
And here we are, the new lightweight hunting rig. Disclaimer: It’s not that lightweight, still a long barrel, but it’s not a short bush stalker.
