Two days ago Amazon AWS had a massive outage. Did I notice? yes. Was I impacted? Yes, to a degree. Most Autodesk services were down, including the ones I use for working in Revit. Was it a problem? Not really. You just do something else. There’s always something else to do.
But what surprised me was seeing the countless posts on social media (which are cloud based), complaining about it even days later.
AWS is not much different than MS, Cloudflare or your petrol station. Not much different than your electricity company.
You depend on them, full stop. If it goes down, you wait.
Interesting that it takes one such incident for people to complain, bicker and cry. Tomorrow is business as usual again.
This may sound sarcastic. And it is to a degree. The important thing is that you are aware of your dependence. Then you can decide for yourself if that’s ok or not.
